Medicine and General Surgery
What surgeries?
The so-called surgeries ” convenience” relate more particularly to sterilizations (oophorectomy and castration) dogs and cats, but also rabbits, guinea pig, ferret,…and even pig! These surgeries aim to “make sterile” your animal. In addition to the absence of unwanted reproduction, these surgeries may have an interest in the long term health of your pet : reduced risk of breast tumor and pyometra in females, reduced risk of testicular tumor and prostatic hyperplasia in male dogs, brawl in male cats,…
Certain conditions or illnesses may also require surgery : skin mass removal, breast or internal for which histological analysis will be recommended, wound management, of an abscess… but also the surgical emergencies such as gastrointestinal obstruction by a foreign body, a pyometra (uterine infection), a dilation-torsion of the stomach, childbirth requiring a caesarean section…
How is it going?
Surgeries “convenience” can be scheduled by simply making a telephone appointment. If your pet has never been consulted before this surgery, a clinical clinical examination will be performed before the anesthesia.
Regarding diseases requiring elective surgery, a surgical appointment is given to you following the completion of a consultation to characterize the problem, to anticipate the type of surgery to be performed and above all to discuss with you any additional examinations to be performed.
When you arrive at the clinic the morning of the surgery (between 8:30 a.m. and 9 a.m.), your animal fasting since the day before 8 p.m., one of our assistants will receive you to verify your contact details, ask you about your pet's state of health this morning and make an outing appointment in the afternoon (or in some cases the next day). She will also present you with a care contract in order to validate the estimate together but above all in order to offer you pre-anesthetic assessment that we do not systematically impose but that we strongly recommend in order to be able to adapt our anesthetic protocols but also to detect sub-diseases. underlying unexpressed.
Your animals are operated on in the morning so that we have time to properly monitor their awakening and you can pick them up in the afternoon well awake and in good shape!
As their name suggests, urgent surgeries are treated as soon as the underlying problem and the urgency criterion are identified.
Our special attentions
A surgical act, even simple, n’est pas sans risque. As in human medicine, we do not guarantee zero risk. However, we make every effort to ensure that the risk is controlled as much as possible. We use anesthetic protocols adapted to the surgery and/or the disease of
Part of the Cap Pain Network (cf Who are we?), we make every effort to reduce the pain caused by a surgical procedure, whether during surgery or after. All our operated animals receive an injection of morphine during the surgery, ainsi qu’une injection d’anti-inflammatoire à leur réveil. If necessary, a morphine relay is also performed post-operatively. Nous réalisons également des anesthésies locales ou loco-régionales afin d’optimiser l’analgésie lors des chirurgies.
