Medicine and General Surgery
The annual health examination is commonly called “vaccination”, but it is much more than that!
During the annual health exam, we start by discussing with you how you feel about your dog's health, because you are the one who knows him best. The smallest detail can count ; drink a little more or urinate more frequently, get up with more difficulty, vomit regularly, shake your head often,...are just as many small signs which will not necessarily have motivated a consultation on their own. Yet, they may be the first signs of “hidden” diseases and require further exploration.
We then carry out an exhaustive clinical examination allowing us to evaluate what you may have noticed or highlight new abnormalities. (heart murmur, masse, redness, depilations,…) also requiring exploration. Monitoring weight is also an essential point because weight loss or weight gain is often only visible when it is too significant.. This will be an opportunity to take stock of your pet’s nutrition. (cf nutrition)
After having done this overall health assessment of your animal, we address the theme of prevention :
New recommendations regarding vaccination have been published in 2019. Some vaccines only require a booster every two or three years, but others must absolutely remain an annual booster.. For you and your pet nothing changes, he will still have to receive one or more injections every year. But on our side, we will only carry out the necessary vaccinations each year : this is the principle of reasoned vaccination.
We also remind you that there is a vaccine against piroplasmosis and Lyme disease (transmitted by ticks). Our region has a high tick population, we can only advise you to carry out these annual booster vaccines. However, they cannot be carried out on the same day as “classic” vaccines..
