Functional rehabilitation

The importance of post-operative rehabilitation in humans no longer needs to be demonstrated and the prescription of sessions has become systematic. Dogs and cats are no exception to the rule.. The lack of mobility of a limb after osteo-articular surgery has a huge impact on bone healing and leads to rapid muscle wasting associated with ankylosis. The return to almost normal mobility is then greatly slowed down.

The passive and active mobilizations that we can offer you aim to lift the ankylosis in order to regain correct joint mobility., limit muscle wasting and thus have optimal functional recovery.

In general, it is advisable to wait 1 week after surgery before starting rehabilitation to allow the acute phase of inflammation to subside. We then proceed to a first session of "inventory of fixtures". We can then draw up a plan for the sessions to come. (their estimated number as well as their intensity) which can evolve according to the progress of your animal. We will also tell you the exercises that you can do daily at home.

Functional rehabilitation is not reserved for post-operative recovery. It is also indicated during neurological dysfunction leading to a sudden or progressive loss of mobility in order to, for the first case, fully or partially recover motor function, or to slow down the process in the second case.

We use cryo methods- and thermotherapy, massages, passive and active mobilizations (hedges, balloons, weight transfer platforms,…) and electrotherapy (for severe muscle wasting, particularly of neurological origin).
